There was a lot of excitement surrounding the launch in the tech world, especially since the brand promised to offer a better experience by overcoming the limitations of the previous model. The new series has two models—Phone 4a and 4a Pro. For now, the regular version Phone 4a is the most talked about in the market, as it brings a significant upgrade to the mid-price segment.
Big changes in design, new surprises in Glyph
Nothing has maintained their unique transparent-design philosophy, but this time there have been subtle but important changes in the design. Where the previous Nothing Phone 3a featured a round camera module, the Phone 4a features a new pill-shaped camera layout. The back panel is made of glass, the top camera deco is made of aluminum, and the frame is made of polycarbonate—which gives a premium feel when held in the hand.
The most talked about part is the new Glyph Interface. This time, a total of 63 mini LED lights have been used on the back of the phone, which can show information about calls, notifications, timers, volume indicators and even live tracking. Users can customize the glyph lights from the settings, which gives the phone a different identity.
The thickness of the device is 8.5 mm and weighs about 205 grams. With IP64 certification, it is protected from dust and light splashes of water. The phone has been launched in the market in four colors, of which the white and blue variants are particularly eye-catching.
Improved display: Meeting user demands
The Nothing Phone 4a has a 6.78-inch 1.5K resolution Flexible AMOLED display, with a refresh rate of 120Hz. This is a big upgrade over the previous generation, as users have been demanding higher resolution for a long time.
The maximum brightness of the display can reach up to 4500 nits, which ensures clear visibility even in sunlight. About 800 nits of brightness is available in normal use. Gorilla Glass 7i protection provides protection from scratches and light impacts.
There is an in-display fingerprint scanner and face unlock. The color depth, black contrast and video streaming experience are quite commendable at this price.
3.5x telephoto in the camera: A rare addition in the segment
The phone has a 50MP + 50MP + 8MP triple camera setup at the back and a 32MP selfie camera at the front. The biggest change is the 3.5x telephoto lens, which is rarely seen in this segment.
The main sensor is slightly larger than the previous generation, resulting in improved light capture. Portrait mode has 1x, 2x and 3.5x options. Skin tones are natural and there is no over-saturation—which is seen as a problem in many rival devices.
Edge detection has become more accurate thanks to the use of AI Semantic Segmentation. Background blur is natural and balanced. The color balance is good on the ultra-wide lens, but the details could have been better.
In terms of video recording, there is 4K 30fps support from the rear camera, with EIS stabilization. The front camera can record 1080p 60fps videos. All the necessary features including night mode, slow-motion, time-lapse, panorama and expert mode have been provided.

Powerful chipset and gaming performance
The Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 processor, which is made of 4nm technology, has been used for performance. It provides stable performance in all areas of daily use, multitasking and gaming.
The AnTuTu score in the benchmark test has come up to more than 1.14 million. In Geekbench 6, the single-core score is 1252 and the multi-core is 3312. The stress test showed 99% stability.
Gaming up to 120fps is possible in the popular game BGMI. Even after playing for a long time, the temperature is limited to around 39 degrees Celsius, which is acceptable.
Fast storage and improved battery
The phone will be available in 8GB + 128GB variants up to 12GB + 256GB. The important upgrade is the UFS 3.1 storage, where the previous generation had UFS 2.2. As a result, the data read and write speed has increased significantly.
The battery capacity has been increased to 5,400mAh. It is possible to complete the charge faster as it has 50W fast charging support. It is expected to provide improved backup compared to the previous 5,000mAh battery.
Software and update promises
The device runs on Nothing OS 4.1, which is based on Android 16.
Nothing promises three years of OS updates and four years of security updates. Quick search, reminders and app access can be done using Essential AI features and Essential Key. There is also support for Circle to Search and Google Gemini.
Connectivity and other features
Bluetooth 5.4, Wi-Fi 6 (2×2 MIMO), NFC, support for over 10 5G bands, and 360° antennas make the phone future-proof. Stereo speakers and improved haptic feedback enhance the user experience.
Price and market competition
The 8GB + 128GB variant is priced at ₹31,999 in India. The effective price can come down to around ₹24,999–₹25,999 if bank and exchange offers are applied.
While the price could have been more aggressive in a competitive market, analysts say the price is quite reasonable considering the number of upgrades it has brought—display, storage, camera, and battery.
- The Nothing Phone 4a clearly shows that the brand has taken user feedback seriously. This model corrects the limitations of the previous generation by adding an improved display, a powerful chipset, fast storage, a large battery and a 3.5x telephoto lens, which is rare in the segment.
- The performance has been upgraded. The battery has also been enlarged. The battery was small in the Phone 3A. And the biggest complaint about the Phone 3A, the UFS storage type, has been upgraded. In my opinion, the Nothing F 4A really seems like a balanced and complete smartphone.
- For the community members of Nothing, which means fans of Nothing, this is for them, from there if you want to give something like feed etc. updates etc. then you can give it. Talking about connectivity, there is Bluetooth 5.4, 10 5G bands, Wi-Fi 6. There is support for Dual Band Wi-Fi.
It has emerged as a balanced and complete package in the mid-budget smartphone segment. With a combination of design, performance and camera, the Nothing Phone 4a is expected to be able to make its place as a strong competitor for technology enthusiasts.
